Senior BigQuery Data Engineer

About the role

Checkout.com is looking for a Senior BigQuery Data Engineer to join its Data Platform team in London. You will help build and operate a world‑class data platform that supports real‑time streaming and analytical workloads for a global fintech business.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain data pipelines and enablement components on GCP and AWS, using technologies such as Kafka, Flink, BigQuery and Airflow.
• Write and optimise SQL and DBT models for large‑scale analytical workloads.
• Automate workflows, create documentation and monitor platform health to ensure self‑sustaining operations.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance to product teams on best practices and data governance.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to drive adoption of the platform and unlock new use‑cases.

Required profile

• Strong engineering background with experience building and owning components of a data platform at scale.
• Proven experience with cloud data warehousing, especially BigQuery optimisation and FinOps.
• Hands‑on experience with modern cloud stacks (AWS, GCP or Azure) and streaming technologies.

Required skills

• BigQuery, SQL, DBT, Airflow (GCP Composer).
• Programming in Python, Java, Scala or C#.
• Kafka, Flink, Datahub, Montecarlo for monitoring.
• Cloud platforms: AWS, GCP, Azure.
