Senior Commissioning Engineer – Electrical

About the role

This senior position supports the commissioning of first‑of‑class electrical power and distribution systems for the next generation Dreadnought submarines. You will work closely with engineering, build operations, the Royal Navy and MOD to deliver safe, compliant, high‑quality commissioning activities.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out commissioning and testing activities in a high‑risk environment with limited supervision.
• Liaise with Engineering, Royal Navy, MOD and Build Operations teams to ensure safety and compliance.
• Research, author and review design and test documentation.
• Maintain full and accurate records in line with policy, procedure and legislation.
• Mentor less‑experienced team members and represent the company during Factory Acceptance Tests, off‑site testing, contractor sea trials and overseas activities.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of AC and DC electrical generation and power distribution systems.
• Experience with fire‑protection systems and electrical testing.
• Understanding of instrumentation, electrostatic discharge, low‑voltage control, data communications, PLCs and fibre optics.
• Familiarity with safety controls and procedures in high‑risk environments, including nuclear site licence conditions.
• Ability to see how test and commissioning contribute to the wider defence enterprise.
