Senior Data Engineer (Remote within the UK)

About the role

Chip is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to elevate its data platform and enable a fully data‑driven organisation. Working remotely from anywhere in the UK, you will partner with the Analytics Engineer to shape the architecture, build robust pipelines and set governance standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and operate secure, scalable data pipelines across multiple sources.
• Co‑own architecture decisions for ingestion, modelling and the presentation layer, including the medallion (Bronze, Silver, Gold) framework.
• Define and enforce engineering standards such as naming conventions, partitioning, testing strategies and contract templates.
• Implement Databricks best practices, Infrastructure‑as‑Code with Terraform, and Unity Catalog governance.
• Enable self‑service data access for downstream consumers.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers and raise the overall engineering bar.

Required profile

• Proven experience building and scaling complex data products in a fast‑growing environment.
• Deep hands‑on expertise with the Databricks platform, including workspace, compute, governance and orchestration.
• Strong data modelling skills (medallion architecture, Kimball/Star schema).
• Fluent in Git workflows and comfortable reviewing code.
• Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases such as Redshift, Postgres and MongoDB.
• Ability to design systems, reason about trade‑offs and own architectural decisions.
