About the role
The Senior Geomatics Officer is a senior technical specialist who will lead large, complex and strategically significant geomatics projects across Cotswold Archaeology. The role provides technical leadership in archaeological survey, GIS, reality capture and digital workflows while supporting innovation and standards development.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and deliver large, complex geomatics projects, ensuring technical excellence and strategic alignment.
- Provide technical advice on equipment, software and survey methodologies across the organisation.
- Oversee the collection, processing, quality assurance and archiving of GNSS, Total Station, photogrammetry and LiDAR datasets.
- Develop and maintain GIS, CAD, mobile GIS and reality‑capture workflows using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and related tools.
- Mentor Geomatics Officers and Assistant Geomatics Officers, delivering training and professional development.
- Investigate emerging technologies and propose innovations to improve efficiency and data quality.
Required profile
- Degree, postgraduate qualification or 5+ years’ experience in archaeology, geomatics, surveying, geography or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience with archaeological field survey, GNSS, Total Station and handling of spatial data.
- Proven ability to manage large‑scale spatial data workflows, including GIS, CAD and reality‑capture datasets.
- Strong experience with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and mobile GIS applications.
- Excellent organisational, communication and record‑keeping skills, with a full clean driving licence.
