Senior Legal Counsel – Property Development

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join a leading property development firm. The role is based in London and involves providing comprehensive legal support across the Group’s development activities.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial leases, sale and purchase agreements, construction contracts, consultancy and planning documents, including s106 agreements.
• Conduct due diligence and title investigations, and advise on acquisition and disposal transactions.
• Manage disputes, draft pre‑action correspondence, and coordinate arbitration or litigation with external counsel.
• Prepare board resolutions and secure internal approvals prior to contract execution.
• Provide legal advice to internal functions such as Projects, Cost Control, Marketing, HR, Finance and IT.
• Monitor legislative changes, update company policies and advise senior management on legal risks.
• Liaise with regulators and governmental bodies on behalf of the Group.
• Oversee external law firms and control legal costs within approved budgets.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor in England and Wales.
• Minimum 7 years post‑qualification experience in residential and mixed‑use property development, including sale and purchase of residential properties.
• Proven ability to handle commercial lease documentation independently.
