Senior Research Nurse – Oncology Clinical Trials (Maternity Cover)

About the role

The NHS Scotland Cancer Research Network is seeking a Senior Research Nurse to join the Oncology Research Team at the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh. This fixed‑term, maternity‑cover position involves managing patient recruitment, care, and treatment within a variety of oncology clinical trials.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate recruitment, consent, and ongoing care of trial participants with diverse malignancies.
• Interpret clinical trial protocols and ensure compliance with ICH/GCP guidelines.
• Collaborate with research nurses, clinicians, data managers, and multidisciplinary teams across the SCAN region.
• Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary meetings, clinics, and occasional regional travel for study meetings.
• Maintain accurate trial documentation and support data collection activities.

Required profile

• Degree‑level education (or progressing towards) in nursing or a related health discipline.
• Relevant oncology nursing experience or prior involvement in clinical research.
• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional and academic development.
• Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic research environment.

Required skills

• Knowledge of ICH/GCP guidelines and the clinical research process.
• Proficient IT skills for data entry and trial management systems.
