Senior Wellbeing Practitioner – Safeguarding & Mental Health

About the role

The Senior Wellbeing Practitioner will join the Safeguarding Team to strengthen the identification, assessment and response to complex wellbeing and safeguarding concerns within the NMC’s Fitness to Practice processes. You will provide expert advice, develop referral pathways and safety plans, and promote a trauma-informed, person-centred approach for registrants experiencing serious mental health difficulties.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and embed a wellbeing service for registrants, including structured referral, escalation and safety‑plan pathways.
• Provide specialist advice to colleagues on complex cases involving self‑harm, suicidal ideation or heightened risk of harm.
• Assess complex information, identify risk and protective factors, and recommend appropriate risk‑management actions.
• Liaise with external health, mental health and safeguarding professionals to ensure coordinated support.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the team’s approach to mental health and wellbeing within regulatory processes.

Required profile

• Recent experience in a clinical, safeguarding, mental health, wellbeing or social‑care setting.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation for children and adults at risk, and of mental health and mental capacity law.
• Demonstrated ability to assess and manage complex risk, including self‑harm and suicidal ideation.
• Experience working collaboratively with health, mental health and social‑care professionals.
• Excellent communication skills to translate complex safeguarding information into clear, practical guidance.
