Shift Mechanical Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Shift Mechanical Engineer to join a large, well‑known facilities management organisation in Birmingham. The role involves maintaining and repairing a wide range of mechanical services across healthcare and commercial sites during night shifts.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and repair ventilation, pumps, compressors, boilers, medical gas, heating, and domestic hot/cold‑water systems.
• Respond to BMS alerts and telephone calls, assess issues, allocate tasks, and complete documentation.
• Carry out diagnostic and fault‑finding activities on complex mechanical equipment.
• Perform Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks in line with the PPM programme.
• Obtain Competent Person status for specialist systems after training.

Required profile

• Relevant mechanical qualification such as City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2/3.
• Commercial experience in a facilities management or healthcare environment is desirable.
• Ability to work autonomously on night shifts and hand over records to the Helpdesk team.
