Software Engineer – 6‑Month Contract (Java, AWS, AI)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer for a 6‑month contract to join a high‑performing technology team in Manchester. The role focuses on building scalable, cloud‑native solutions using Java, AWS and AI‑enabled technologies within a hybrid work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable Java applications on AWS.
• Take a system‑level approach, ensuring smooth interaction between platforms, services and third‑party APIs.
• Implement and maintain automated testing frameworks to guarantee software quality.
• Integrate AI/ML capabilities into existing and new solutions.
• Collaborate with architects, product teams and other stakeholders to deliver robust technical solutions.
• Identify technical risks and propose improvements for performance, scalability and resilience.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across distributed systems and production environments.

Required profile

• Strong commercial experience as a Software Engineer or Developer.
• Proven expertise in Java development and hands‑on experience with AWS cloud services.
• Deep understanding of system‑level thinking, distributed architectures and third‑party integrations.
• Experience building and maintaining automated test suites.
• Familiarity with embedding AI/ML capabilities into software products.
• Ability to work in fast‑paced, complex technology environments.
