1st Team Sports Doctor – Elite Football Club

About the role

Manchester City is looking for an outstanding Sports Doctor to join its world‑class Performance Department. The role is central to protecting, supporting and optimising the health, availability and performance of the men’s 1st‑team players in a high‑performance football environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver medical assessment, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment for players during daily training, home and away matchdays, and travel.
• Provide emergency care, injury and illness management, and oversee pre‑season and pre‑signing medicals.
• Manage medication, anti‑doping processes, therapeutic use exemptions and specialist referrals.
• Collaborate with physiotherapy, performance, coaching and multidisciplinary teams to design integrated rehabilitation and return‑to‑play programmes.
• Ensure clinical governance and performance objectives are aligned with football‑specific demands.

Required profile

• Full GMC registration with an active licence to practise in the UK.
• Membership or Fellowship of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine.
• Postgraduate qualification in Sport and Exercise Medicine.
• FA/EPL recognised Advanced Trauma Medical Management in Football qualification.
• Demonstrable experience supporting high‑performance athletes, preferably in professional football.

Required skills

• Advanced clinical examination and functional assessment of sports injuries.
• In‑depth knowledge of football‑specific injury and performance demands.
• Comprehensive understanding of the WADA Code, TUEs and the ADAMS whereabouts system.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team in fast‑paced environments.
