About the role
The Administrative Officer will provide efficient clerical and administrative support to the Food, Water and Environmental Microbiology Services (FWEMS) laboratory. Working under the Business Support Manager and Laboratory Administrator, the role ensures smooth day‑to‑day operations for laboratory staff and external partners.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and type letters, reports, and publications, and create audio‑visual aids using the appropriate computer package.
- Organise local meetings, manage room bookings and communicate arrangements to attendees.
- Process laboratory orders through the Money and People Services (MAPS) finance, purchasing, HR and payroll system, including contacting suppliers for pricing and product details.
- Enter goods received notes into MAPS, maintain an up‑to‑date order file, and follow up urgent orders by telephone.
- Provide general administrative, financial, and human‑resource assistance as directed.
Required profile
- Strong communication skills to interact with internal laboratory teams, external authorities, commercial customers, and the public.
- Ability to develop working relationships across a wide range of stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple administrative tasks simultaneously.
Required skills
- Proficiency with the MAPS finance and procurement system.
- Competence in using standard computer packages (e.g., Microsoft Office) for document creation and data entry.
