Application Developer - Java & Web Technologies

About the role

This position is for an Application Developer specialising in Java and web technologies, working remotely within the UK while travelling fortnightly to the London or Manchester office. The role focuses on leading the refactoring and migration of key applications for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) as part of a large‑scale programme.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, development and assurance of Java micro‑service applications undergoing migration to AWS.
• Collaborate directly with client teams, IBM partners and a broader programme team to deliver migration milestones.
• Oversee the refactoring of existing applications, ensuring code quality, performance and compliance with architectural standards.
• Support the development team by providing technical guidance and reviewing deliverables.

Required profile

• Minimum of five years continuous UK residency.
• Proven experience leading development activities in a complex, multi‑stakeholder environment.
• Ability to work remotely and attend on‑site meetings in London or Manchester every two weeks.

Required skills

• Java programming language.
• Development of micro‑service architectures.
• Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) migration projects.
• Web technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, REST APIs).
