Application Engineer – Electron Microscopy Software

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Electron Microscopy Scientist or post‑doc to join a fast‑growing technology business developing advanced imaging software for electron microscopy. The role is hands‑on and customer‑facing, providing pre‑ and post‑sales support and translating innovative technology into real‑world impact for academic and industrial users.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the technical bridge between customers and internal R&D teams.
• Support installations, configuration and troubleshooting of advanced microscopy software.
• Deliver product demonstrations, training sessions and workshops (remote and on‑site).
• Work closely with customers to understand workflows and recommend optimised solutions.
• Feed back insights to support product development and new feature design.
• Support pre‑sales activities with technical expertise.
• Contribute to technical documentation and testing of new software releases.
• Represent the business at conferences, workshops and industry events.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Physics, Biology, Materials Science, Engineering).
• Strong hands‑on experience with multiple electron microscopy technologies (TEM, SEM, STEM, FIB‑SEM); 4D‑STEM experience is highly desirable.
• Experience with Python and image/data processing workflows is desirable.
• Problem‑solving mindset with ability to apply complex techniques in practical settings.
• Confident communication skills and flexibility to travel (~30%) across the UK and beyond.
