Assistant Professor – Biotechnology (Chemical Engineering)

About the role

The Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CEB) at Cambridge seeks an Assistant Professor to join its research community from October 2026. The post combines a 70% research focus with 30% teaching responsibilities, supporting the department’s strategic themes of sustainability and healthcare.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead an internationally recognised research group in biotechnology.
• Secure external grant funding and publish in leading journals.
• Teach and examine across the Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology Tripos, including areas outside personal expertise.
• Supervise undergraduate and graduate students, fostering a positive research culture.
• Contribute to departmental service and the wider University collegiate system.

Required profile

• Outstanding record of original research demonstrated by high‑impact publications.
• Experience in obtaining external research funding.
• Strong commitment to teaching and willingness to cover a broad curriculum.
• Ability to build collaborative links with industry and academic partners.
