Bioinformatician – Python, Nextflow, Pangenomes (Hybrid, London)

About the role

Join an early‑stage, interdisciplinary Computational Biology team developing scalable omics workflows for a machine‑learning‑driven crop gene‑editing platform. The role focuses on building and curating plant pangenomes and integrating them into downstream discovery pipelines.

Key responsibilities

• Review, improve and maintain existing omics pipelines, especially pangenomes and RNA‑seq.
• Own the creation, curation and quality control of plant pangenomes.
• Develop computational systems that connect omics data to downstream machine‑learning applications.
• Collaborate with data, ML and plant‑science teams to onboard and process public datasets.
• Support internal discovery projects and maintain high‑quality scientific codebases.
• Optimise workflow resource usage, e.g., Nextflow pipelines.

Required profile

• Extensive experience with plant pangenomes.
• Strong experience with Nextflow and omics pipelines.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Familiarity with common omics formats (FASTQ, VCF, HAL, GFF).
• Experience with Linux and bioinformatics tools such as seqkit, bcftools, samtools.
• Knowledge of public omics repositories (NCBI, Ensembl, JGI).
• Excellent cross‑functional communication skills.
• Ability to translate scientific workflows into production‑grade software.
• Experience in reproducible scientific or regulated environments.
