Catchment to Coast Advisor – Drinking Water

About the role

Join a dynamic team focused on protecting drinking water sources in the River Great Ouse catchment. As a Catchment to Coast Advisor you will work directly with farmers, food producers, local authorities and community groups to improve surface‑water and groundwater quality through sustainable land‑management practices.

Key responsibilities

• Build a comprehensive knowledge base of risk factors affecting surface and ground waters in Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire.
• Develop and maintain a network of agricultural and environmental contacts who influence land‑use decisions.
• Engage with individual farmers to discuss water‑risk implications of their practices and recommend evidence‑based improvements.
• Contribute to the creation and delivery of a Catchment to Coast Strategy for the River Great Ouse.
• Implement actions from the catchment plan using a source‑to‑sea perspective.
• Collect and report performance data to demonstrate progress against business priorities.
• Introduce innovative investigations, technologies and working methods to enhance outcomes and efficiency.
• Deliver presentations and workshops to educate stakeholders on threats such as nutrients, pesticides and biological indicators.

Required profile

• Passionate about water quality and environmental sustainability.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to build trusted relationships.
• Analytical mindset capable of interpreting data and translating findings into practical solutions.
• Willingness to work primarily in the field across Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire.

Required skills

• Knowledge of surface‑water and groundwater quality issues.
• Understanding of agricultural land‑management practices.
• Experience delivering technical advice to diverse stakeholder groups.
