Clinical Health Information Management Specialist – Health Records

About the role

The Clinical Health Information Management Specialist (CHIMS) ensures health records are accurate, complete, and compliant with legislation. You will work within Quinte Health’s network of hospitals, supporting physicians and patients by managing chart flow and coding clinical data.

Key responsibilities

• Review health records for completeness and report errors or omissions.
• Monitor overdue charts, notify physicians, and assemble records for permanent filing.
• Respond to requests for record releases, including in‑person, telephone, and written inquiries.
• Attend court appearances with records under subpoena.
• Assign ICD‑10‑CA and CCI codes and maintain the abstracting database.
• Retrieve and route patient charts for admissions and manage microfilming processes.
• Participate in departmental quality‑assurance programs and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Active member in good standing with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) or certification obtained within six months of start date.
• Proof of current CPE credits or recent diploma (within 12 months).
• Knowledge of Folio software and relevant legislation (Medical Staff Rules, Public Hospitals Act, PHIPA, etc.).
• Clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check.
