Clinical Nurse Manager – Theatres

About the role

This senior nursing position leads the peri‑operative services for National Elective Services at NHS Golden Jubilee University National Hospital. Reporting to the Head of Nursing, you will hold 24‑hour professional accountability for all theatre areas and guide a workforce of around 310 staff.

Key responsibilities

• Provide visible, values‑based leadership across all peri‑operative services.
• Champion high‑quality, safe, and compassionate patient care.
• Lead quality‑assurance, patient‑safety and clinical‑effectiveness programmes, including the Scottish Patient Safety Programme and 5 Steps to Safer Surgery.
• Drive workforce development, succession planning and staff wellbeing in a high‑demand environment.
• Contribute to board‑wide nursing strategy, service redesign and national initiatives.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner.
• Significant senior leadership and management experience in a relevant specialty.
• Evidence of Master’s level study (or working towards).
• Proven track record in quality improvement, service redesign and patient safety.
• Strong understanding of workforce planning, financial and resource management.
• Experience leading large multidisciplinary teams through change.
• High emotional intelligence, resilience and professional credibility.
• Management or leadership qualification and formal Quality Improvement training are desirable.
