Court Usher

About the role

On behalf of Birmingham City Council, we are seeking a Court Usher to support the Patterson Inquests at the Birmingham and Solihull Coroner's Court. The role involves assisting families, witnesses and legal professionals to ensure smooth court proceedings, with flexible full‑time or part‑time options.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare courtrooms before hearings, including seating and equipment setup.
• Welcome and assist families, witnesses, and legal representatives throughout hearings.
• Monitor remote proceedings via Microsoft Teams and provide back‑office support.
• Perform administrative tasks such as document scanning, archive assistance, and reception duties when required.

Required profile

• Strong administrative and organisational abilities.
• Professional, empathetic approach when dealing with bereaved families and the public.
• High level of discretion, confidentiality and emotional resilience.
• Comfortable working in a structured, detail‑oriented environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience using Microsoft Teams for remote collaboration.
