Director in Residence

About the role

We are looking for a Director in Residence to join the Drama Department at Tormead School, an academically selective independent school for girls in Guildford. This part‑time, fixed‑term position runs from September 2026 to August 2027 and offers the chance to direct school productions while developing your own creative practice.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Head of Drama in planning and delivering the department’s curriculum and rehearsals.
• Direct or co‑direct school productions from audition through to performance.
• Support practical lessons, examinations and student performance development.
• Contribute to stage management, lighting, sound, costume and set planning.
• Organise resources and handle day‑to‑day administrative tasks for the department.

Required profile

• Graduate or early‑career professional with a degree in Drama, Theatre, Acting or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated practical experience in theatre production or directing.
• Enthusiasm for working with children and young people.
• Organised, adaptable and energetic with a professional attitude.
