Driver Trainer

About the role

The Driver Trainer will deliver comprehensive driver training to staff across all driving disciplines, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and internal policies. This position is based within the Operational Training department of Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Key responsibilities

• Provide driver training to both novice and experienced staff in line with the driver training policy.
• Maintain safety and conduct of students and training resources, including daily vehicle checks, record keeping, and cleaning of training vehicles.
• Identify and implement improvements to training delivery methods to maximise learning efficiency.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 GCSEs (grades A*-C / 9-4), including English and Mathematics, or equivalent Level 2 qualification.
• Experience designing and delivering training packages.
• Ability to work independently with strong organisational and time‑management skills, as well as collaboratively within a team.
• Full, current Category C driving licence.

• Salary £39,152 – £41,771 per annum, plus a trainer allowance (10% rising to 15% after one year).
