Environmental Officer

About the role

The Water Management Alliance is seeking an Environmental Officer to support the Upper Ouse Water Management Board in Bedfordshire. You will work closely with operational and technical teams to ensure that watercourse maintenance and flood‑risk activities protect and enhance the natural environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide ecological advice for daily watercourse maintenance and water level management activities.
• Lead projects identified in the Board’s Biodiversity Action Plan.
• Engage proactively with operations teams before and during culvert replacements, watercourse restorations and Natural Flood Management schemes.
• Ensure works prevent environmental harm, minimise ecological disturbance and enhance biodiversity.

Required profile

• Minimum two years’ experience in an ecological or environmental role.
• Experience conducting habitat and species surveys, Environmental Impact Assessments, Water Framework Directive assessments and Habitats Regulations Assessments.
• Experience working with public authorities or on infrastructure and water‑management projects is advantageous.
