Functional Safety Consultant

About the role

TÜV Rheinland Industrial Services (TRIS) UK is seeking a Functional Safety Consultant to join its growing team on a permanent basis. The role will be based in either Warrington or Stockton‑on‑Tees and involves delivering safety‑critical engineering solutions for a diverse client base.

Key responsibilities

• Provide IEC 61508, IEC 61511, IEC 62061 and ISO 13849 based functional safety and machinery safety consultancy and training.
• Offer specialist technical support across the functional safety lifecycle and respond to client queries.
• Write technical papers and deliver presentations to support service execution and business development.
• Develop and deliver training on functional safety, OT cyber security and machinery safety.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, identifying new consulting opportunities.
• Lead project assignments, monitor progress, costs and ensure timely, high‑quality delivery.
• Ensure compliance with company standards, contracts and industry regulations.

Required profile

• Technical engineering degree in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation or Control Systems, with knowledge of OT cyber security.
• Chartered status preferred.
• Certification as a TÜV Rheinland FS Engineer or Exida CFSE (by examination).

• IEC 61508, IEC 61511, IEC 62061, ISO 13849 standards.
• Functional safety, safety‑instrumented systems (SIS) and machinery safety.
• OT cyber security concepts.
• Technical writing and presentation delivery.
• Project planning and management.
