About the role

Sonder is a global hospitality brand offering premium, design-forward apartments and boutique hotels. The General Manager leads the properties under their guidance, delivering an upscale guest experience, driving growth, maximising revenue and controlling costs to meet key metrics, while building a hospitality-focused culture. The role covers properties in a city or across markets.

Key responsibilities

• Recruit, build and lead a team focused on authentic hospitality and efficient operations, and maintain a service-oriented, guest-centred local culture.
• Manage assigned properties: forecast targets, track performance and run initiatives to maximise profitability.
• Translate Sonder's goals into operational plans and define the local experience.
• Work closely with Sales, Revenue, Technology, Finance and People Services, using a cross-functional approach.
• Build relationships with landlords, asset managers and property owners of hotel and apartment buildings.
• Ensure compliance with fire and life safety, hotel star systems, property and tourism taxes, and government reporting requirements.
• Share scalable best practices with other Sonder properties in the market or region.

Required profile

• At least 10 years of experience in hospitality, hotel operations, management, professional services or related fields.
• Preferred experience managing Marriott-branded hotels.
• An analytical, data-driven approach and a hands-on leadership style in a lean operating model.
• Proven track record of leading and developing high-performing teams.
• Strong written, verbal and asynchronous communication, and ability to work autonomously in a local market while using central resources.

Required skills

• Comfort with modern tools such as Google Workspace, Slack and Asana.
• Out-of-the-box thinking to hit growth targets within the brand's framework.
