General Site Manager – Onshore Substation

About the role

The General Site Manager will act as the on‑site Client Representative for the design, construction and handover of on‑shore high‑voltage electrical substations. Reporting to the HVDC Package Manager, the role ensures safe, compliant and efficient delivery of all on‑shore works.

Key responsibilities

• Represent the client during initial design reviews, constructability assessments and construction planning.
• Support the HVDC Package Manager throughout the build phase and manage all client‑site duties under the contract.
• Coordinate client site representatives and ensure seamless information flow across project functions.
• Facilitate resolution of site‑based issues, mitigate employer risks and liaise with the contractor’s senior management.
• Oversee health, safety, environment, security and pre‑handover maintenance activities.
• Manage stakeholder relationships with National Grid, associated contractors and senior client management.
• Ensure compliance with contracts, consent plans, leases, design documents and health & safety plans.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing on‑shore HV substation construction projects.
• Strong technical knowledge of civil engineering, HV mechanical and electrical installations, and testing & commissioning of HV systems.
• Familiarity with contract administration, consent management and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary site teams and coordinate resources effectively.
