Head of Business Operations, Governance, Risk & Compliance

About the role

Astroscale UK is looking for a senior leader to drive operational excellence, governance and compliance across its UK site. Reporting to the Deputy Managing Director, you will reduce friction, embed safe systems of work and ensure the organisation meets health & safety, security and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Own and continuously improve the site’s governance framework, policies, RACI matrices and escalation routes in line with UK H&S law, export controls and contractual obligations.
• Translate business strategy into operational plans, anticipate constraints and remove blockers to revenue delivery.
• Lead the Governance & Compliance Task Force and the Operational Systems & Controls Task Force, setting cadence, tracking risks and reporting to senior leadership.
• Coordinate Business Operations inputs for ISO certifications (9001, 27001, 14001, 22301) and ensure alignment with functional owners.
• Define, document and standardise Business Operations processes, focusing on health & safety in office, cleanroom and lab environments.
• Strengthen safe systems of work through risk assessments, RAMS reviews, contractor controls and pre‑task briefings.
• Drive simplification of duplicated or manual work while maintaining compliance and safety standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience in governance, risk, compliance or business operations at a senior level.
• Strong understanding of UK health & safety legislation, export controls and ISO standards.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional task forces and influence senior stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 27001, ISO 14001 and ISO 22301 frameworks.
• Experience with risk assessment methodologies and RAMS documentation.
