About the role
The Head of Modern Foreign Languages will lead the language department at Ipswich Academy, driving high‑quality teaching and learning across all key stages. Reporting to the Principal, you will shape the curriculum, support staff development and ensure the department meets the academy’s strategic goals.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, implement and review the Modern Foreign Languages curriculum for all year groups.
- Lead, mentor and manage a team of language teachers, fostering professional growth.
- Monitor and improve teaching standards, assessment practices and student outcomes.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on whole‑school initiatives and safeguarding responsibilities.
- Manage departmental resources, budgeting and scheduling.
Required profile
- Qualified teacher status (QTS) with extensive experience teaching modern foreign languages.
- Proven leadership experience within a secondary school setting.
- Strong understanding of curriculum design and assessment frameworks.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare.
