Java Developer – Glasgow

About the role

Barclays is looking for a Java Developer to join its Glasgow team. You will design, develop and continuously improve high‑quality software that powers the bank’s global operations and enhances the experience of customers and colleagues.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver scalable, maintainable Java solutions using modern frameworks and tools.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers and fellow engineers to define requirements and implement robust features.
• Participate in code reviews, promote best‑practice coding standards and share knowledge across the team.
• Stay up‑to‑date with industry trends and contribute to internal technology communities.
• Apply secure coding practices and implement comprehensive unit and integration tests.

Required profile

• Considerable hands‑on experience with the Java ecosystem, preferably Java 21.
• Strong background in Spring Framework (Core, Boot) and SQL Server, including complex queries and performance tuning.
• Proficiency in unit testing (JUnit, Mockito) and exposure to integration testing.
• Understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment to on‑premise or private‑cloud environments.
• Experience in the finance domain, especially investment banking, is highly valued.
