Laboratory Assistant – Sample Processing

About the role

Abbott Rapid Diagnostics is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support the processing and management of biological samples for toxicological analysis. You will work in a regulated laboratory environment, ensuring samples are handled accurately and in compliance with chain‑of‑custody procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare hair and oral fluid samples for analysis within agreed timeframes.
• Enter sample details into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and log discrepancies.
• Maintain equipment calibration, perform routine maintenance, and ensure all instruments meet specifications.
• Store, archive, and dispose of samples according to quality and safety standards.
• Assist with laboratory cleanliness, basic systems maintenance, and risk‑assessment preparation.
• Collaborate with the Accessioning Manager and Customer Services to resolve issues promptly.

Required profile

• GCSE level education, including English.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong accountability.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Commitment to health and safety regulations and standard operating procedures.

Required skills

• Data entry proficiency.
• Experience with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Equipment calibration and basic maintenance.
