MCR Operator – Live Broadcast Coordination

About the role

The MCR Operator is responsible for coordinating, ingesting, and monitoring live and scheduled broadcast services from the Master Control Room. Working either independently or as part of a shift team, the role ensures reliable connectivity, technical quality, and correct routing for guests, hosts, and contribution feeds in a 24/7 news environment.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage DTL and studio connections for guests and hosts.
• Set up, route, and ingest live feeds from satellite, IP, agency, and web sources.
• Operate contribution, routing, ingest and signal‑processing systems quickly and confidently.
• Monitor and control contribution and return paths to studios, transmission and recording systems.
• Diagnose and resolve faults in contribution, ingest and DTL workflows.
• Act as the operational contact for assigned live feeds and liaise with external providers and internal stakeholders.
• Maintain detailed incident, ingest and DTL reporting and assist in documentation.
• Support gallery, transmission and technology teams during live operations.

Required profile

• Experience with broadcast playout technologies and associated workflows.
• Hands‑on experience operating a range of Master Control Room equipment.
• Knowledge of broadcast contribution technologies and high‑level fault analysis.
• Familiarity with current encoding technologies.
• Proven ability to work under pressure in a live broadcast environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to interact with technical and non‑technical personnel.
• Willingness to work shifts, including nights, in a 24/7 setting.
