About the role
Arcadis is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to lead innovative rail infrastructure projects across the UK and beyond. You will guide multidisciplinary teams, ensure technical excellence, and mentor colleagues while delivering designs that meet client expectations and national standards.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, mentor and develop design team members, fostering a learning culture.
- Oversee technical delivery of rail projects from concept to completion, ensuring quality and compliance.
- Promote safety, health and environmental best practices on all project activities.
- Collaborate with global and local colleagues to deliver integrated solutions.
- Act as primary client contact, communicating progress and proactively resolving challenges.
- Provide technical leadership, sign‑off on design deliverables and interdisciplinary reviews.
- Prepare and present complex technical proposals to stakeholders.
- Manage production, quality assurance of analysis, design documentation and reports.
- Support commercial management and maintain accurate project records.
- Maintain Continuing Professional Development and contribute to team growth.
Required profile
- BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Ideally Chartered Engineer (CEng) status (not essential).
- 5+ years post‑graduate experience in the rail sector, including leading design teams.
- Proven experience as CRE on Network Rail projects.
- Strong knowledge of Eurocode, Network Rail standards and relevant design software.
- Track record delivering projects in stations, structures and lineside ancillaries.
- Excellent communication, report writing and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience with site surveys, construction issues and risk management (CDM Regulations).
