Senior Legal Officer – Immigration Law

About the role

The Senior Legal Officer will support ILPA’s legal and policy work across immigration, economic migration, asylum and nationality law. Reporting to the Legal Director, the role involves detailed legal analysis, parliamentary engagement and delivery of legal projects.

Key responsibilities

• Produce high‑quality analysis of immigration, economic migration, asylum and nationality law and monitor legislative and case‑law developments.
• Draft consultation responses, briefings and evidence submissions to support ILPA’s parliamentary and influencing work.
• Liaise with members, gather practice insight and support thematic and regional working groups.
• Deliver legal project outputs on time, share line management of the Legal Project Officer and contribute to monitoring and reporting.
• Ensure legal and policy information is accurately stored and work with the Content and Digital Channels Manager on published content.

Required profile

• Post‑qualification experience in immigration, economic migration, asylum and nationality law.
• Strong legal analysis, judgement and drafting skills with the ability to communicate complex legal information clearly.
• Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage competing deadlines.
• Experience of legal or policy work within immigration law and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
