Special Credit Director

About the role

HSBC is seeking an experienced professional to join its Special Credit Unit as a Special Credit Director. The role focuses on protecting the bank’s balance sheet while managing reputational and non‑financial risks associated with distressed corporate customers.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with CMB Relationship Managers to identify and assess high‑risk corporate customers in financial distress.
• Develop and implement turnaround or recovery strategies to mitigate risk.
• Conduct detailed financial and credit risk assessments to support decision‑making.
• Lead negotiations with customers, lenders, shareholders, advisers and internal stakeholders to achieve optimal outcomes.
• Minimise impairments and maximise recoveries while balancing commercial and reputational considerations.
• Ensure compliance with HSBC’s risk framework, regulatory requirements, conduct standards and governance processes.

Required profile

• Strong credit risk and analytical capabilities.
• Proven ability to identify and evaluate financial stress situations.
• Experience negotiating with senior stakeholders and managing complex, high‑risk relationships.
• Understanding of reputational risk management within a banking environment.
