Staff Nurse – General Surgery (Band 5)

About the role

Join NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde as a Band 5 Staff Nurse in General Surgery at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. You will deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred care in a fast‑paced acute environment, working within a supportive multidisciplinary team and developing your surgical nursing expertise.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidence‑based care programmes for a defined patient group.
• Coordinate seamless patient care from admission through discharge in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
• Take responsibility for ward management in the absence of the Senior Charge Nurse or Deputy.
• Support, supervise and guide junior staff, students and support workers.
• Contribute to resource management, including staffing, supplies and medicines.
• Maintain accurate, timely patient documentation in line with NMC standards.
• Participate in audit, quality‑improvement and risk‑management activities.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with a valid NMC UK pin.
• Relevant clinical experience in a healthcare or surgical setting.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Excellent organisational and time‑management skills.
• Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development.
• Competent IT skills and ability to maintain electronic records.
