System Administrator – 12 Month Contract

About the role

We are seeking a System Administrator to support and maintain a software development lab environment for a 12‑month period. The role ensures the reliability, security and performance of the infrastructure that underpins development, testing and validation activities.

Key responsibilities

• Administer and maintain lab servers, virtual machines, networking equipment and storage systems.
• Manage virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper‑V.
• Support Windows Server services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and Group Policy.
• Maintain secure, isolated air‑gapped systems and enforce internal security procedures.
• Implement and monitor backup and recovery processes to guarantee data integrity.
• Perform system patching, updates and hardening activities.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure, virtualization and network issues.
• Provision and sustain lab resources for engineering teams.
• Monitor system performance, storage utilisation and resource consumption.
• Maintain technical documentation of configurations, procedures and inventories.
• Ensure compliance with IT security and access‑control standards.

Required profile

• Experience in system administration within enterprise or engineering environments.
• Strong knowledge of Windows Server administration and Active Directory.
• Hands‑on experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper‑V).
• Understanding of backup, recovery and system security practices.
• Experience with isolated or air‑gapped environments is a plus.
• Excellent troubleshooting, documentation and communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering or related field preferred.
