Team Leader – Hazardous Waste & Carriers, Brokers & Dealers

About the role

The Environment Agency is seeking a motivated leader to head the Hazardous Waste, Carriers, Brokers & Dealers workstream within the Waste, Resources & Movement Team. You will drive the UK circular economy agenda, influence future waste legislation and help deliver the Resources and Waste Strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of experts in hazardous waste and carrier, broker and dealer compliance.
• Shape waste legislation by setting strategic direction, writing guidance and operational instructions.
• Support cross‑cutting initiatives and set leadership standards across health, safety, wellbeing, performance management and workforce planning.
• Collaborate with dispersed networks to build relationships and ensure regulatory fit‑for‑purpose.
• Contribute to the development and delivery of the Resources and Waste Strategy.

Required profile

• Enthusiastic with the ability to inspire and build positive team spirit.
• Proven ability to develop trusting, respectful working relationships.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working within regulation, preferably waste or environmental legislation.
• Ability to work flexibly, independently and manage a complex workload.
• Capability to anticipate and manage risk and deliver timely results through others.
