6th-8th Grade English Teacher (Applicant Pool)

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated English teacher for grades 6‑8 at Shasta Lake School, part of the Gateway Unified School District. The position is in the applicant pool, providing a full‑time, departmentalized teaching assignment within a supportive school community.

Key responsibilities

• Teach English to students in grades 6‑8, following the curriculum adopted by the Board of Trustees.
• Develop and deliver lesson plans, instructional materials, and individualized or small‑group instruction.
• Establish and maintain classroom behavior standards to create a functional learning atmosphere.
• Assess student progress, keep records, prepare progress reports, and communicate with parents.
• Identify student needs and collaborate with professional staff to address health, attitude, or learning challenges.
• Supervise students during out‑of‑classroom activities and administer district‑mandated standardized tests.
• Participate in curriculum development, district committees, and school‑wide activities.
• Plan and coordinate the work of paraprofessionals and complete required reports and surveys.

Required profile

• Valid teaching certification for secondary education.
• Ability to teach English in a departmentalized or team‑teaching environment.
• Strong lesson‑planning and instructional design skills.
• Effective classroom management and student assessment capabilities.
• Willingness to collaborate with colleagues, parents, and district staff.
• Commitment to professional development and district initiatives.
