About the role
The Academy Attendance Officer is responsible for improving pupil attendance and punctuality across the academy. Working closely with pupils, families, pastoral staff and external agencies, the officer will monitor attendance data, intervene where needed and ensure statutory compliance.
Key responsibilities
- Collect, maintain and analyse attendance and punctuality data for all pupils.
- Record reasons for absence, ensure registers are complete and issue correspondence to parents and the Senior Leadership Team.
- Investigate underlying causes of poor attendance, coordinate interventions and escalation with pastoral staff.
- Monitor vulnerable groups, liaise with external agencies and support parental engagement.
- Produce statistical reports, advise the Headteacher on authorised leave and prepare statutory documentation.
- Initiate legal action with the Local Authority Attendance Service and manage penalty notices.
- Handle CME (Child Missing Education) referrals and manage off‑rolling processes in line with statutory guidance.
- Update the Attendance Policy, maintain the academy website information and contribute to reward systems.
Required profile
- Experience in attendance monitoring within an educational setting.
- Knowledge of local authority attendance procedures and statutory requirements.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, families and external agencies.
- Strong organisational and data‑management skills.
