Accounts Receivable Clerk

About the role

Our client, a leading UK logistics and transportation provider, is looking for an Accounts Receivable Clerk to join the finance team in Birmingham City Centre. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will support the day‑to‑day operation of the sales ledger, ensuring customer payments are recorded accurately and reconciliations are completed on time.

Key responsibilities

• Post and allocate customer receipts and remittances to the appropriate accounts.
• Process ledger adjustments, including exchange‑rate variances, bank charges and approved write‑offs.
• Reconcile customer statements and resolve any account discrepancies.
• Assist with daily, weekly and monthly bank reconciliations.
• Maintain and reconcile sales ledger control accounts.
• Work closely with Credit Control to investigate and resolve invoice queries.
• Process credit notes and account adjustments.
• Support the creation and maintenance of customer accounts.
• Contribute to month‑end reconciliation and reporting activities.
• Provide general finance administration and ensure accurate financial records.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a Sales Ledger, Accounts Receivable or Finance Assistant role.
• Strong understanding of customer payment allocations and ledger reconciliations.
• Excellent numerical and analytical abilities with high attention to detail.
• Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
• A recognised finance qualification such as AAT (advantageous but not mandatory).
