AI & Digital Airframe Structural Analysis Solutions Engineer Placement

About the role

This 12.5‑month placement in Filton joins the Structures Nonlinear Simulation & Virtual Testing team at Airbus. You will work on AI‑enhanced structural analysis solutions, supporting the development of digital tools for aircraft testing and maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Explore AI techniques to reduce simulation lead times and improve process efficiency.
• Develop software tools and scripts (primarily Python) for testing and maintenance workflows.
• Gain hands‑on experience with structural testing methods and virtual testing simulations.
• Collaborate with test engineers, simulation engineers and software engineers across a trans‑national team.
• Learn about aircraft design, manufacturing and in‑service support processes.

Required profile

• Must be an undergraduate for the full placement duration and provide a graduation date.
• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or Computer Science.
• Submit a CV and a cover letter outlining motivation and suitability.
• Highly motivated with strong problem‑solving and analytical abilities.

Required skills

• Python programming (preferred).
• Basic use of Git and GitLab.
• Familiarity with Finite Element Method (FEM) concepts.
• Knowledge of Deep Learning, Computer Vision or Large Language Models is a plus.
