Archaeologist – Fixed‑Term (6‑month) in Andover

About the role
Cotswold Archaeology is seeking experienced archaeologists to join its fieldwork team on a six‑month fixed‑term contract in Andover. The role involves manual excavation, recording, and data collection on a variety of archaeological projects.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in the successful completion of fieldwork projects, including fieldwalking, evaluation, excavation, finds processing, data entry and archiving.
- Accurately record investigation data using pro‑formae, scale drawings and photographs.
- Recover artefacts and environmental samples in accordance with procedures and industry standards.
- Carry out manual excavation of features accurately and efficiently.
- Demonstrate knowledge of archaeological periods and practice.
- Deal courteously with sponsors, clients, officers and the public.
- Create and maintain accurate administrative records.
- Assist in training and supporting trainee archaeologists.
Required profile
- Knowledge and understanding of archaeological practice.
- Previous experience of commercial archaeology.
- Ability to deal efficiently and courteously with clients and stakeholders.
- Ability to create and maintain accurate administrative records.
- Ability to work to deadlines.
- Willingness to undertake away work, including extended periods.
Required skills
- Manual excavation and recording of archaeological features.
- Stratigraphic matrix completion, photography, and measured drawing.
- GPS surveying (Leica GPS/TST) – desirable.
- Full manual driving licence – desirable.
- Membership of CIfA – desirable.
- CSCS/EUSR card or ability to pass CITB HS&E Operatives Test – desirable.

- Salary £28,532‑£29,255 per year (37.5‑hour week).
