Assistant Director – Home First & Provider Services (Adult Social Care)

About the role

This senior position leads Home First and Provider Services for a major London borough, shaping the future of adult social care. You will oversee a diverse portfolio of frontline services and work closely with NHS leaders and partner organisations to deliver person‑centred, integrated care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership across Home First and Provider Services.
• Lead large‑scale transformation programmes to improve outcomes and ensure sustainability.
• Build and maintain strong partnerships with the NHS, providers, community organisations and regional partners.
• Ensure services meet safety, quality and statutory requirements, including CQC compliance.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and collaboration.
• Lead a multidisciplinary workforce of around 260 staff, promoting an inclusive, high‑performing environment.
• Manage significant budgets and resources, delivering value for money and robust governance.
• Represent the council at strategic boards, partnership meetings and regional forums.

Required profile

• A recognised Social Work or Health and Social Care qualification (or equivalent senior leadership experience).
• Extensive senior leadership experience within Adult Social Care.
• Proven track record of leading complex transformation and service‑improvement programmes.
• Expertise in commissioning, provider services, reablement, hospital discharge or community services.
