Assistant Property Underwriter

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Assistant Property Underwriter to join a fast‑growing insurer in Manchester’s Spinningfields district. This role offers the chance to deepen technical underwriting expertise while working with a diverse portfolio of commercial property risks.

Key responsibilities

• Assess commercial property insurance risks through technical underwriting and risk selection.
• Manage existing client relationships and underwrite new business opportunities and tenders.
• Review construction details, risk surveys and protection systems to produce accurate risk assessments.
• Analyse data and present clear underwriting recommendations.
• Develop strong relationships with broker partners and internal colleagues.
• Continuously expand technical underwriting knowledge alongside experienced professionals.

Required profile

• Experience in commercial underwriting, either as an Assistant Underwriter or Underwriter.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to make informed decisions.
• Excellent communication skills for explaining underwriting rationale.
• Attention to detail, proactive attitude and effective workload prioritisation.
