Assistant Solicitor – Regulatory & Health & Safety (Manchester)

About the role
We are seeking a motivated Assistant Solicitor to join our specialist regulatory team in Manchester. Working closely with Partners David Rainey and Nick Gianferrari, you will support complex health & safety, regulatory and inquest matters from the initial incident through to resolution.
Key responsibilities
- Analyse prosecution evidence and assess implications for clients.
- Draft witness statements, review client evidence and prepare defence bundles.
- Collate, organise and summarise case materials for senior lawyers.
- Liaise with courts, coroners, regulators (HSE, CQC, Police) and external experts.
- Attend interviews under caution, inquests and trials alongside counsel.
- Conduct legal and regulatory research, including HSE guidelines.
- Review medical records, post‑mortem reports, transcripts and CCTV evidence.
- Coordinate meetings, site visits and expert appointments while supporting clients in high‑pressure situations.
Required profile
- Qualified Solicitor with at least 1 year of experience in health & safety or regulatory law.
- Experience in criminal law and inquests, preferably within care‑home settings.
- Highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Detail‑focused and confident using case‑management systems.
- Strong communicator able to build rapport with clients and stakeholders.
- Calm, resilient and professional under pressure.
- Collaborative team player with a proactive, flexible approach.
- Empathetic when dealing with clients facing difficult circumstances.
Required skills
- Proficiency with case‑management software.
- Advanced IT and research skills.
