Associate Planning Consultant – Birmingham

About the role

Penguin Recruitment is supporting a leading multidisciplinary consultancy seeking an Associate Planning Consultant for its Birmingham office. The role involves delivering complex planning projects across nationally significant infrastructure, regeneration and development schemes. You will work alongside planners, engineers, environmental specialists and designers to shape projects that impact communities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead planning projects across infrastructure and development sectors.
• Manage multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate delivery.
• Prepare and review planning strategies, reports and applications.
• Support the preparation of bids, tenders and framework submissions.
• Build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships.
• Mentor junior planners within the team.
• Collaborate with environmental, engineering and design colleagues.
• Identify business development opportunities and contribute to growth.

Required profile

• Degree in Town Planning or related discipline.
• MRTPI status or working towards chartership.
• Significant consultancy or public sector planning experience.
• Strong knowledge of the UK planning system and policy.
• Experience with Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) projects.
• Understanding of major infrastructure consenting processes (e.g., DCO, TWAO, Town and Country Planning Act).
• Excellent project management and organisational abilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build lasting client relationships and contribute to work‑winning.
• Collaborative approach within multidisciplinary teams.
