Assurance & Compliance Manager – Construction

About the role

The Assurance & Compliance Manager will lead the newly created Audit & Compliance department for a leading UK infrastructure and construction business. Reporting to the Director of Audit and Compliance, you will oversee a small team and drive a risk‑based internal audit strategy across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Head of Audit, Risk and Compliance in delivering the internal audit strategy.
• Provide leadership to a blended team of regional auditors and an internal audit lead, ensuring clear accountability and professional development.
• Develop and execute a risk‑based internal audit plan covering finance, HR, procurement, IT, commercial and project functions.
• Integrate insights from BSI audits, quality consultant reviews and peer reviews to create a cohesive assurance view.
• Monitor compliance with ISO standards and embed a standardised audit methodology across all activities.
• Report audit outcomes and follow‑up actions to senior leadership.

Required profile

• Proven experience in internal audit, compliance or risk management within the construction or infrastructure sector.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop audit teams.
• Strong understanding of ISO standards and audit best practice.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills.
