Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

You will join a well‑established building services consultancy delivering high‑quality, sustainable and low‑carbon engineering solutions across the West Midlands. The role involves taking ownership of mechanical design from concept through to completion, leading design elements and supporting multidisciplinary coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and review mechanical calculations, drawings and specifications for commercial, residential, healthcare, education and industrial projects.
• Lead design elements, guide junior colleagues and represent the consultancy in client and contractor meetings.
• Select appropriate plant and technologies, ensuring designs meet low‑carbon and sustainability objectives.
• Attend site visits to monitor installation progress and maintain high technical standards across the team.
• Contribute to project strategy and multidisciplinary coordination, including electrical interfaces.

Required profile

• Degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
• Proven track record delivering mechanical design in a building services environment.
• Professional membership (e.g., CIBSE or IMechE) or a clear commitment to progression.
• Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with clients and project partners.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Revit.
• Experience using Amtech.
• Knowledge of lighting design tools such as Relux and Dialux.
• Competence in Microsoft Office for documentation and reporting.
• Familiarity with British Standards, Building Regulations and BREEAM sustainability principles.
