Bakery Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Bakery Manager to lead production and packing operations at a modern, air‑conditioned bakery in Manchester. Reporting directly to the Directors, you will be responsible for ensuring product quality, food safety, and efficient output across a team of supervisors and operatives.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the highest quality standards for all bakery products.
• Plan and adjust production schedules based on demand, stock levels and equipment maintenance.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Sales and Logistics to deliver production plans.
• Lead the Production and Packing departments, managing three supervisors and ~42 operatives.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to boost efficiency and reduce waste.
• Ensure a safe, organised workplace and compliance with BRCGS, HACCP, TACCP and VACCP audits.
• Oversee equipment safety, contractor control and permit‑to‑work systems.
• Develop SOPs, train staff and promote a strong food‑safety culture.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing a bakery or food‑manufacturing operation.
• Hands‑on background with pastry or bread production.
• Stable employment history and ability to work autonomously.
• Strong knowledge of continuous improvement, equipment performance and KPI implementation.

Required skills

• BRCGS audit participation
• HACCP, TACCP and VACCP programme experience
• Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and hygiene standards
• Continuous improvement techniques
• KPI development and monitoring
