Bookkeeper – Accountancy Practice

About the role

Our client is a well‑established accountancy practice in Kent looking for a Bookkeeper to join their Ashford office. The role offers a solid entry point into accountancy for newcomers and a chance to develop further for existing bookkeepers within a supportive professional environment.

Key responsibilities

• Process purchase and sales invoices.
• Maintain accurate financial records for a diverse client portfolio.
• Carry out bank reconciliations and monitor client accounts.
• Assist with the preparation and submission of VAT returns.
• Post receipts, payments and journal entries.
• Handle expenses, petty cash transactions and credit control.
• Support the preparation of management accounts and financial reports.
• Maintain client accounting records using accounting software.
• Liaise with clients to obtain financial information and resolve queries.
• Provide general administrative support to the accounts team.

Required profile

• Working towards or holding an AAT qualification, or currently studying ACA/ACCA.
• Previous experience in accounts or bookkeeping.
• Strong interpersonal and customer‑service skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational abilities.
• Good numerical and analytical capability.
• Positive, proactive approach to learning.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience with accounting software.
