Commercial Financial Controller

About the role

This position is based in Birmingham city centre and follows a hybrid model (three days in the office). You will act as the Financial Controller for a professional technology consulting business, providing strategic leadership while maintaining hands‑on oversight of client‑focused finance activities.

Key responsibilities

• Support the finance team to deliver accurate, timely reporting and services to clients.
• Monitor and drive achievement of client KPIs and service level standards.
• Lead onboarding/off‑boarding of entities, acquisitions and transactions, ensuring strong governance.
• Own client‑focused improvement initiatives and process enhancements.
• Prepare and review monthly/quarterly financial reports, bank reconciliations and supporting schedules.
• Produce annual reconciliations, budgets, forecasts and business plans with variance analysis.
• Serve as primary finance contact for clients, leading meetings and building relationships.
• Collaborate with operational and cross‑functional teams across multiple locations.
• Maintain balance‑sheet integrity through regular reconciliations, VAT returns, payables, receivables and cash‑flow management.
• Drive continuous improvement of systems, processes and controls while mentoring team members.

Required profile

• Fully qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA or ACA) or QBE.
• Strong experience in professional services or consulting finance.
• Proven ability to manage client‑facing finance functions and lead improvement projects.
